The former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont has revealed this Monday the television message that he recorded in October 2017 in case he was detained by the organization of the unilateral referendum on independence.
After offering a press conference to present his first memoir with the title “I explain myself”, Puigdemont has published on his Twitter profile a fragment of the video he recorded in October 2017, when he was president, to be broadcast if he was arrested, something that did not happen.
“My arrest will not serve to erase the political conflict between the State and Catalonia, on the contrary, it will contribute to aggravating it,” Puigdemont warns in the video.
My arrest will not serve to erase the political conflict that is being lived between the State and Catalonia; on the contrary, it will help to aggravate it. We can neither resign nor stop.

In his speech, he details that he records the video “in anticipation of the state apparatus” assuming the “so irresponsible and foolish, but predictable, decision” to stop him.
All this so that the message was spread “inside and outside Catalonia”, with the hope that it would help “to contain and reverse the serious democratic regression in this part of the EU”.
The JxCat leader stresses that this arrest, which has not been carried out since he fled to Belgium, “attempts against the sovereignty of the people of Catalonia”, since it was the one that chose the Parliament that chose him as president.
In the message recorded at the Palau de la Generalitat, Puigdemont also criticizes that ehe “state apparatus” tries “desperately to prevent” the Catalans from deciding their future.
