A 17-year-old teenager was arrested in the state of Florida in the United States on Friday, 31, accused of participating in the massive hacker attack on Twitter, which allowed criminals earlier this month to tweet verified accounts of names like Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, billionaire Bill Gates, Tesla president Elon Musk and former New York mayor Mike Bloomberg.
According to US Attorney David Anderson, two other people were also charged with the attack.
In addition to the minor, a 19-year-old man from the UK and another 22-year-old from Orlando, Florida are being charged. The minor was arrested in the city of Tampa, Florida, after an investigation conducted by federal and state investigators. Florida law allows greater flexibility than federal law to charge minors as adults in a case like this.
The teenager is accused of being the main commander of the invasion, but his name has not been revealed. He will have his first hearing before a judge tomorrow. Englishman Mason Sheppard is being accused of computer hacking, fraud and money laundering – in the US, he faces a $ 250,000 fine and up to 20 years in prison. The other American involved in the crime, Nima Fazeli, is being charged with computer hacking, and could face a $ 250,000 fine in addition to a five-year prison sentence.
The two were identified after using official documents to create bitcoin brokerage accounts where part of the money from the scam would have passed.
The teenager received more than 30 charges, including organized fraud, identity theft, fraudulent communication and computer hacking. He’s in a Tampa jail. According to police documents, he accessed Twitter networks in order to deliver a scam, but it remains unclear whether this is related to the invasion of the company’s internal systems or just the theft of accounts. The main charge is to conduct a scam.
