President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reacted to allegations that in Mexico there are more deaths from Covid-19 than in nations like Spain and France, noting that in these countries there is a smaller population.
Through his customary Sunday message on social networks, the president said that for every person who has died from this virus in Mexico there are three in proportion to its population.
“The population of Spain and France is less than that of Mexico, in the case of Spain they have 46 million inhabitants, we have 126 million inhabitants. If we look at the deaths per million inhabitants, almost three more have died in Spain than in Mexico, for each one who have died in our country ”, he affirmed.
He pointed out that it is the yellow and conservative media that like to highlight this type of information.
He also added that There is progress in the country’s economic recovery.
“The economy will soon be reactivated, the jobs that are required will be generated and they are going to benefit workers as entrepreneurs, as those who seek life in the informal economy. ”
He highlighted that two positive news were given during the week for the progress of the fight against corruption and impunity: the negotiation of the extradition of Emilio Lozoya, former director of Pemex in the Enrique Peña Nieto government accused of corruption in the international Odebrecht case; and results of the investigation around the disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa.
“This Brazilian company bribed the authorities to obtain contracts, the countries where bribes were given were punished, not impunity, some former presidents are even in jail and in Mexico nothing had happened because of the collusion and impunity, when this gentleman comes, it is something very important, especially to clean up, purify public life, because the main problem in Mexico is corruption ”.
He said that the release of José Ángel Casarrubias “El Mochomo”, one of the main victims of the crime of disappearance of the students, was an affront to the progress of the investigations by the Attorney General of the Republic.
