Quebec wants to tighten the screws on bars and private establishments that do not respect public health rules. Faced with major outbreaks this weekend, the Minister of Health and Social Services says he wants to “punish the culprits”.
“I want to be clear. We will not hesitate to close establishments, ”said Minister Christian Dubé during a press briefing in Montreal.
Quebec is “looking at” the possibility of giving greater powers to the police in private establishments. Customers could therefore be fined.
A complete reconfiguration of bars is also not out of the question, reiterated the elected official of La Prairie.
Major gatherings without distancing were reported this weekend, among others in a bar in Brossard. These situations raise fears of a resurgence of cases, as in the United States, where the deconfinement was done quickly.
“You are responsible for enforcing public health guidelines.” -Christian Dubé to bar owners
Quebec will begin discussions this week with organizations such as the Régie des alcools et des jeux to ensure that the message gets through to establishments that have recently been deconfigured.
