A car was hit by a regional train while it was crossing the tracks at the level crossing of Maleo (Lodi), along the provincial road 234. Elisa Conzadori, 34, lost her life in the tragic accident: she was headed for Pizzighettone when, at level crossing, the car he was traveling in was thrown into a ditch. The woman died instantly. An investigation into the case opened.
The victim, who was traveling in a red Citroen C1, lived in Pizzighettone and worked at the Famila supermarket in Codogno (Lodi). Convoy 2651 of the Milan-Mantua line overwhelmed it. After the accident, road traffic was blocked and the railway traffic suspended between Codogno and Cremona. The passengers of the train involved, about a hundred people, were made to get off and reloaded on substitute vehicles.
The mayor of Maleo: the second tragedy in two years – The mayor of Maleo Dante Sguazzi comments on Elisa’s death saying that “it is the second tragedy in two years at that level crossing”. And again: “It had to be a day of celebration for everyone, it couldn’t have happened worse”. “He lived in our city, close to his family – adds Luca Moggi, mayor of Pizzighettone -. I wonder how similar things can still happen in 2020”.
Rfi: “Level crossing bars in perfect working order” – The technicians of RFI (Italian railway network) verified today that the bars of the level crossing between Maleo (Lodi) and Pizzighettone (Cremona), where the 34-year-old died today, “are fully functional”. This was announced by RFI itself through a spokesperson. The woman overwhelmed and killed by the train was driving a red Citroen C1, crumpled after the impact with the Trenord convoy. The level crossing is on the former state road 234. The black box of the Milan-Mantua regional train is also being recovered, which could help to understand the exact dynamics of the accident.
