According to European Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, a first vaccine against the new coronavirus could be ready at the end of the year. “Even if the forecasts are risky at this stage, we have good indications that a first vaccine could be available at the end of the year or at the beginning of next year,” she told the German daily Handelsblatt on Sunday.
A vaccine will not solve all the problems, nuances the European Commissioner. But this will allow a return to a certain normality, “when the citizens most at risk have been vaccinated”. Stella Kyriakides also calls on Member States to locate the sources of infection as quickly as possible.
