President Andrés Manuel López Obrador hoped to be able to use the vaccine against covid-19 and launch a universal and free national vaccination plan in the first quarter of 2021.
“It is a hope, it is having certainty, it is having confidence that we are going to leave, that this nightmare is going to end and that public health will be achieved, the health of all Mexicans,” he remarked.
In his Sunday message from the National Palace, the President of the Republic again celebrated the agreement signed by Argentina and Mexico with the University of Oxford, AstraZeneca and the Carlos Slim Foundation in order to access the vaccine and hoped that in November phase 3 of experimentation will be concluded so that the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) gives its approval and production begins.

“It is thought that we will be able to use this vaccine in the first quarter of next year, with a national vaccination plan, it will be universal, that is, within everyone’s reach, this will be decided by the Ministry of Health”, said the president.
He further stressed that, by decision of the University of Oxford, the covid-19 vaccine will not be for profit and in the case of Mexico, it will be applied free of charge to the entire population.
“It is estimated that it can cost 4 dollars, but people are not going to pay it directly here in Mexico., the government will finance it with the public budget, which is the people’s money, but the vaccine is going to be applied free of charge to all Mexicans, ”said López Obrador.
