Lucien D’Onofrio on the stoppage of the season in D1A: “Bad for the image of Belgian football”

The stoppage of the 2019-2020 season of the Jupiler Pro League has caused a lot of ink to flow and has not only made people happy. According to Luciano D’Onofrio, vice-president of Antwerp, things could have been otherwise.

“Why did it take a decision so quickly at the beginning of April? I still don’t understand why Anderlecht, Genk and Standard followed. I don’t even understand Bruges. They were going to be champions anyway. The only clubs which benefited from this decision were Ghent and Charleroi. Not playing is bad for the image of Belgian football, ”he explains in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws.

“We could have finished Matchday 30 in July and played mini-playoffs for a few weeks. And if you didn’t want to participate, you shouldn’t have organized Playoffs 2. You could have let Anderlecht play against Genk and the winner could have played against the fourth in Playoffs 1. ”

According to him, “the functioning of the Pro League must be reviewed and quickly”.
