BOLZANO – Tragedy on the morning of August 15th in Val Badia, South Tyrol: around 11 a base jumper died crashing to the ground after having launched from Piz da Lec, a mountain located above the town of Corvara in Badia.
The victim’s body was recovered by the Aiut Alpin Dolomites operators. Alpine rescue and carabinieri also took part in the operations.
According to an initial reconstruction reported by local media, the man, a 33-year-old from Seveso, climbed up to 2,900 meters above sea level on the peak of the Sella group, in the Dolomites, and launched himself with a wingsuit. But he had some problems and was unable to operate the device that slows his fall. Rescue was called by a friend who was with him.
The carabinieri investigate the incident, and they must first establish what went wrong.
