Access to the coastal towns of Bredene and Le Coq is limited on Sunday. Only residents, people with a second home and those who absolutely must go there are still admitted, indicate Sunday the mayors of the two localities, Steve Vandenberghe (SP.A) in Wilfried Vandaele (N-VA).
The municipalities of Blankenberge and Knokke-Heist have decided to ban day tourists this Sunday, following a fight that took place on Saturday in Blankenberge. After a crisis meeting, the municipalities of Bredene and Le Coq decided to close their access roads as well. From 2:00 p.m., the roads leading to the seaside resorts of Le Coq, Wenduine and Bredene were closed.
“There was still room on the beaches, but as the tide rises between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm, the beach gets smaller and people get closer. We want to avoid situations like in Blankenberge, where people do not want to leave the beach when asked, ”said the mayor of the Rooster Wilfried Vandaele.
On the E34 motorway in the direction of Knokke, civil protection was called upon to ensure the distribution of water, due to the high temperatures. Queues have indeed formed at the control points.
