The Deputy Secretary General of Citizens, Carlos Cuadrado, has announced that his training will offer the PSC and to PP go coalition or look for another similar electoral formula in the next Catalan elections with the aim of winning the independence. In addition, he stressed that Cs “has not turned” but continues “in the center”, thus responding to the reluctance expressed by some ‘popular’ positions about the convenience of appearing together in Catalonia after the negotiations of the orange party with the Government of Pedro Sanchez.

“If we were in a coalition Cs, PP and Socialist Party we would win the elections in Catalonia, it is clear. And we are going to work on that, ”Cuadrado told Europa Press, adding that this offer is not new and that his party already put it on the table months ago but received no response from the Socialists.

In this sense, the also responsible for Finance of Cs has stressed that his party is willing to be “generous” and will try to get the three parties to appear “together.” “If we present ourselves together with the Socialist Party, PP and Cs, we would win the elections. We would beat Puigdemont ”, he has abounded.

Of course, he has said that right now, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, it seems “absurd” that the president of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, could consider calling an election. “But when the time is right we will look for the formula and the way in which we add the maximum constitutional votes,” he said.

Cuadrado has indicated that at the beginning of the year his party already bet on the union and sent letters to the Socialists and the PP. As he added, the first “did not respond” but with the “popular” they sat down to talk, sealing a pact shortly afterwards to join a coalition in the Basque Country. “We have got two deputies from Cs”, he greeted, given that the orange party will have representation in the Chamber of Vitoria for the first time.

Given the fact that the president of the Catalan PP, Alejandro Fernández, now questions the convenience of going in coalition with Cs so as not to confuse voters after the “turn” that in his opinion is being imposed on the orange party, Cuadrado recalled that three months ago the leader of the ‘popular’ Catalans was betting on that sum of the two constitutionalist parties.

“We have not turned, the only thing we have dedicated ourselves to is trying to help the Spanish. And it’s true, we have acted, we have not stood still. We have put ourselves to work and to be useful ”, he stressed, to insist that Cs has not made“ any turn of any kind ”but“ is still in the center ”.

At this point, Cuadrado has trusted that the PP “reconsider” and “think about it” because although they handle surveys that can give “six or seven deputies” compared to the current four, in the end “that is ridiculous” because the objective must be winning the elections. “I believe that all united we could win the elections and the sum of these three parties would once again guarantee that a non-independence list would win the elections in Catalonia,” he stressed.

The deputy secretary general of Cs has explained that what his party is proposing is to “remove the PSC from those positions of support for nationalism that it has had for a long time” and lead it to “constitutionalism”, from where, in his opinion, “it never I should have gone ”. As he has assured, it is not about Citizens moving but about the PSC “leaving that side and coming to the center.” “I think that the voters in Catalonia, those of Cs and the Catalan constitutionalists, would see it as great news,” he proclaimed.

When asked if Cs would be willing to present a candidacy with independent people and a headliner who was not from any of those three parties, Cuadrado replied: “Blank sheet. We would talk about everything there is to talk about ”. Thus, he stressed that it would be a question of forming a constitutional list and stressed that his party “never” has put “vetoes”.

Cuadrado has stressed that the union of these three parties would be “something historic” and has pointed out that it is something that can be achieved, in the same way that the independentistas have done in their pacts. Thus, he has alluded to the agreements between a party “very to the right” such as the old CiU and another on the left such as ERC, which managed to agree “only on one thing”: independence.

The orange leader has affirmed that “sometime” the constitutionalists will have to be “more intelligent” and also seek that union by exploring “the necessary formulas”, especially when the Catalan Electoral Law “does not benefit the constitutionalist voter because there are some provinces that have a overvaluation of votes ”. “We know that and then we will have to work and fight with the tools we have to try to beat them,” he warned.

Cuadrado stressed that, just as the Pedro Sánchez government is calling for unity after the pandemic, Ciudadanos is saying “exactly the same” for Catalonia. For this reason, he has said that he hopes that the Socialist Party “moves” and returns to the center, from “where it should never have gone.”

As for whether he believes that the coalition seeking Cs would have more options given the internal discrepancies between the members of the Government and the debate on candidacies open these weeks in the ranks of JxCAT and PDeCAT, Cuadrado has affirmed that Cs is “the only thing” that has What to say to former President Carles Puigdemont, in Brussels, is to “return to Spain and surrender.”

At this point, he has said that it seems “absurd” that they have to be talking about Puigdemont’s list. “It is that I do not understand how the news can be the candidacy or not the candidacy of this man. What this man has to do is surrender ”, he reiterated.

Asked if he thinks that Puigdemont can lead a candidacy while outside of Spain, he pointed out that it seems to him “totally absurd and unheard of.” “We are bringing to normal a thing that is extraordinarily abnormal. What this man has to do is return to Spain and surrender ”, he has settled.
