The Spaniard was the fastest on Saturday at Spielberg. Quartararo and Dovizioso stayed behind.
Pol Espargaro definitely bears his first name. The Spaniard (KTM) will start from pole for the MotoGP Grand Prix of Styria on Sunday, the Frenchman Johann Zarco signing an unexpected 3rd place after being sanctioned Friday for “irresponsible driving”.
Due to this sanction, Zarco will however have to start from the pit lane for the race, losing the benefit of his achievement in qualifying on Saturday.
The leader of the world championship, the French Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha-SRT) will only start in 10th position just behind his runner-up, the Italian Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati).
The surprise of these qualifications also came from the Japanese Takaaki Nakagami (Honda-LCR), author of the second fastest time. Valentino Rossi (15th on the starting grid) suffered a fall, obviously without harm.
