Mexico City. Former attaché of military defense in Lebanon and Egypt, General Juan Morales Fuentes has his opinion on the largest non-nuclear explosion in history, which occurred in Lebanon, that “beyond speculation as to whether it was an attack or not, it is the result of a tragic and very reprehensible bureaucratic indolence. A highly explosive charge was stored for several years and only activated at a very high temperature. The authorities left him to ‘there he goes’. But speculation will increase because geopolitically the region is an economic crossroads, plus the ancestral religious aspect ”.
In this sense, the career military states that “within the fundamental tasks that the armed forces generally have is to defend the sovereignty of a country, then to guarantee internal security, in addition to carrying out social works, civic activities and helping the population in case of public needs, including natural disasters. When the army is asked to build works or administer customs, we are helping to solve cases of need and public utility ”.
Major General Juan Morales Fuentes expresses the above in his capacity as president of the Association of Graduates of the College of National Defense, and adds that “the State must put into practice all its potential so that not only its sovereignty and the integrity as a state. The framework of the rule of law, citizen freedom, peace and justice must be guaranteed. Everything to build a common good ”.
Juan Morales Fuentes will participate this Monday, August 10, in the webinar “National security in Mexico”, organized by the Udlap Jenkins Graduate School. The former undersecretary of the Navy, Admiral Conrado Aparicio Blanco, the engineer Jorge Tello peón, from CESIG, an ITAM body, and the eminent ambassador Raphael Steger Cataño, dean of Social Sciences at Udlap, will also speak on the subject.
In Mexico and many countries there is much talk about national security, but the concept of national security implies a very broad universe. This leads us to very old historical aspects, with the obligation of the states to provide security to their population. At present, we also place our trust as citizens in the State and in the government to provide us with security.
The efforts made by states and their governments are a constant concern that must be latent to provide that security, which in its broadest sense also means security in education, health, and employment. When we speak specifically of citizen security, we speak of public security. But citizens must be active in integrating this climate of freedom, tranquility and justice, within the framework of the society in which we live, says the teacher in National Security and Defense.
“There is a national security law and other legal norms that must be strengthened in order to know what to do and how to do things. The armed forces are a tool of the State and we must have the support that is legally and materially required to carry out our missions, ”he concludes.
