Ricardo Monreal, president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), reported that on Monday, August 24, the Morena bench will carry out, in person, by secret ballot, in a transparent ballot box and before a notary public the election, among its members , of the next president of the Senate.
Among the Morena senators who aspire to preside over the Upper House are: Alejandro Armenta, Higinio Martínez, Ovidio Peralta and Eduardo Ramírez.
Once the Morena parliamentary group elects the president of the Senate, in the installation session of the new legislature, at the end of this month, the other seven parliamentary groups will ratify it in plenary session, to preside over the legislative work as of 1 of next September and until August 31, 2021.
In a virtual press conference, Monreal also highlighted that next Tuesday 18 of this month in person in the Senate a high-level table will be installed, where the Judicial Power, the Legal Counsel of the Presidency of the Republic, the Secretariat of the Interior, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, to review all the initiatives that have been presented in the field of justice and digital justice, among them, those presented by the President of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation to reform the Judicial Power and those presented by the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, in matters of Justice Procurement.
To that meeting, the coordinator of the Morena bench, Monreal, also added, the presidents of the Superior Courts of Justice of the Federative entities and of Mexico City have been invited – only one will attend for health reasons, and the others will participate via digital-. Likewise, a member of the Conago governor will attend.
The idea, stressed the morenista, is to prepare a package of laws on justice, to present them next September.
Monreal stated that they are working to achieve consensus among parliamentary groups to modify the Constitution and the Organic Law of Congress to be able to hold sessions remotely and that opinions on bills, points of agreement, among others, can be approved by electronic vote.
“If consensus is achieved in the next few days, an extraordinary period could be called to carry out the reforms that are required so that remote sessions can be held in the Chambers of Congress.”
