A Military police celebrates 120 days without homicides in Mountain Cluster, the largest urban slum in Belo Horizonte. This year, only one death was recorded – in April. That is one record since the 22nd BPM implementation, 27 years ago. This result, according to Lieutenant Colonel Fábio Almeida, who commands the 22nd BPM, is a consequence of the implementation of Operation Êxodus, which fights homicides.
The operation involves 50 police officers and 15 vehicles from the Shock Battalion and 22nd Traffic Battalion, responsible for carrying out constant blitzes and incursions into the shanty town, for the execution of search and seizure warrants.
In the first 120 days, six search and seizure warrants were carried out, one of which was a minor’s arrest; 16 arrests were made; 32 firearms seized; flagrant arrest of 135 perpetrators of crimes; 29 seizures of minors; 13 fugitives captured, seizure of 6,535 cocaine pins, 13,156 bars / loops / portions of marijuana, 2,865 crack stones, 90 radio communicators and various other drug handling materials; 23 stolen cell phones recovered, eight stolen vehicles recovered.
“Management is driven by results. Operation Êxodus is triggered on weekends in clusters, with the participation of Gepar and Tático Móvel teams, with preventive and qualified repression activities, in addition to police intelligence. We have the support of the specialized units of the CPE and a partnership with the Public Ministry and the Judiciary, in addition to the systematic arrest of the main offenders, ”says Lt. Col. Fábio.
