Herbert McClellan, 27, walked into a Speedway gas station around 2 am last Tuesday.
According to the police account, while at the store, in a moment of employee distraction, the man reached his arm across the counter to steal 13 scratch-off lottery tickets.
Then he left the store without paying for tickets, worth $ 102.
The young man wasted no time checking to see if one was a winner, and when a ticket showed a $ 30 prize, he returned to the same store a few hours later to collect it.
The employees called the police, who arrested McClellan for theft and trafficking of stolen property.
The man is being held on $ 12,000 bond.
So much for being lucky at the lottery. Herbert McClellan stole 13 scratch-off tickets from a convenience store and immediately tried to see if any were winners. When one was a $30 winner, he went back to the same store to cash it in. Officers were called, and he’s in jail now. pic.twitter.com/H8wiLgebJx
