The teachers’ union, Verband Bildung und Erbildung (VBE), considers returning to regular school operations to be unrealistic. “There will be no comprehensive, comprehensive regular school operation like before Corona,” said its federal chairman Udo Beckmann the “World” (Tuesday edition). Politicians had created an illusion and presented something as realizable, “which could not be implemented even if the infection rate remained consistently low”.

Beckmann explained that there was an acute shortage of teaching staff even before the Corona crisis. “Despite the recruitment of newcomers and the reactivation of older teachers from retirement, the human resources are insufficient.” According to the VBE boss, the hygiene measures planned so far at the beginning of the school year will not be sufficient “if the health of everyone involved in school should not be exposed to an even greater risk”.

Beckmann said that the mask requirement in schools planned by several federal states was quickly required. But the implementation is then up to the teacher.
