Despite the fact that the main streaming platforms tend to reserve their big bets for September, they also do not forget their subscribers during the hot month of August. One of the great novelties is comedy ‘Two very lost bullets’, from the creators of ‘Orange is the new black’. In terms of Spanish fiction, the premiere by Amazon Prime Video of ‘Agnes of my soul’, an international blockbuster starring Elena Rivera.

Another series that has generated more interest is ‘Lovecraft Territory’, which will be available on HBO Spain from August 17. 1 | ‘The Rain’ (T3 – 6 agosto)

Another series coming to an end is ‘The Rain’, the first Danish fiction in Netflix history. History presents us with a post-apocalyptic world in which a rain-borne virus has wiped out almost every human in Scandinavia. The plot centers on Simone (Alba August) and Rasmus (Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen), two brothers who come out of their bunker and form a gang with other survivors to explore what is left of the world.

2 | ‘High seas’ (T3 – 7 August)

The luxury ship led by Jon Kortajarena is once again filled with mysteries in this third round, which is expected to be the last. On this occasion, the Villanueva sisters, played by Ivana Baquero and Alejandra Onieva, will have to avoid the spread of a virus that a passenger would have in their possession. The main novelty is the arrival at the Barbara de Braganza of Dr. Ayala (Pep Antón Muñoz), a character we already saw in ‘Gran Hotel’ played by the same actor. Bambú Producciones thus creates an unexpected ‘crossover’ between two of his fictions.

3 | ‘Two very lost bullets’ (August 14)

Netflix brings us this action-packed comedy devised by the creators of ‘Orange is the new black’ and ‘Glow’. Maddie Phillips and Anjelica Bette Fellini play two teenage twins who secretly work as bounty hunters in Atlanta. Both will have many problems to combine their idyllic life in the institute with their controversial profession without raising suspicions.

4 | ‘Lucifer’ (S5 P1 – August 21)

The popular devil played by Tom Ellis says goodbye to his followers forever with a fifth and final season of 16 episodes, although these will premiere in two batches. The series by Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich has become the most marathoned on Netflix according to the TV Time portal, after being rescued by the streaming company when it was canceled by FOX. In the new episodes we will discover how Lucifer manages to rise again from hell.

‘Cleptomaniacs’ (Q2 – August 25)

This teen series returns based on the novel of the same name by Kirsten Smith. Moe (Kiana Madeira), Tabitha (Quintessa Swindell) and Elodie (Brianna Hildebrand) are three young people with a kleptomania problem that they try to solve by going to therapy.

‘Aggretsuko’ (T3 – August 27)

Netflix is ​​still betting on Japanese anime with ‘Aggretsuko’. Its protagonist, Retsuko, is a 25-year-old red panda who works as a clerk and relieves his daily stress by singing ‘death metal’ at karaoke at night. The character was designed five years ago by the Sanrio company, the creators of ‘Hello Kitty’, and due to its great popularity Netflix commissioned a series about it.

Amazon Prime Video5 | ‘Agnes of my soul’ – August 1

This long-awaited adaptation of Isabel Allende’s novel set in 1537, in the midst of colonization of America, is now available on Amazon Prime Video. It tells the story of Inés Suárez (Elena Rivera), a young Spanish woman who travels to the so-called New World to search for her husband and ends up becoming the governor of present-day Santiago de Chile. The series was shot entirely in natural settings in Chile, Peru and Spain and will also be broadcasted soon on RTVE. Actors like Eduardo Noriega, Benjamín Vicuña, Francesc Orella, Carlos Bardem, Enrique Arce or Ismael Martínez complete the cast.

6 | ‘Bread and circus’ (August 7)

La Corriente del Golfo, the producer of the Mexican actors Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal, has developed for Netflix this documentary series shot during confinement. In it, well-known personalities from Mexico dine with Diego Luna himself while discussing issues such as abortion, gender violence, racism or the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Fear the Walking Dead’ (T5 – 15 de agosto)

Survival is complicated for the protagonists of the spin-off of ‘The walking dead’. Morgan (Lennie James) and Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam-Carey) continue to lead the group, which in new episodes delves into unknown territory with the intention of finding new survivors. As a novelty, the series incorporates into its plot the character of Dwight (Austin Amelio), whom we met in the original series.

Steve Thompson, the creator of hits like ‘Sherlock’ or ‘Doctor Who’, has been commissioned to develop this story based on the novels by Frank Tallis set in 1906. It shows us the adventures of the professional couple that make up the English doctor Max Liebermann (Matthew Beard) and Austrian detective Oskar Rheinhardt (Jürgen Maurer). His success in the UK has earned him a renewal for a second season. Every Tuesday at 22:00 two episodes will be premiered in # 0 and will automatically be available also on demand.

8 | ‘Talking Heads’ (10 de agosto)

Twelve top British performers such as Jodie Comer, Imelda Staunton, Martin Freeman, Harriet Walter or Kristin Scott Thomas, among others, star in this BBC series in which the actors perform solo monologues written by the prestigious playwright Alan Bennett. Ten of these monologues have already been played by other actors in specials broadcast by the British public network in 1988 and 1998. The different episodes have been filmed during the confinement and Bennet has created two unpublished monologues for the occasion.

9 | ‘The Woodpecker’ (August 10)

Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke stars in this vintage miniseries about slavery during the so-called Kansas Bleed in the mid-19th century. Hawke steps into the shoes of John Brown, an abolitionist who helps a young slave who calls himself Onion. As a curiosity, Maya Hawke, the daughter of the actor whom we have been able to see in ‘Stranger things’, is also part of the cast.
HBO Spain10 | ‘Zoe’s extraordinary playlist’ (August 10)

HBO is in charge of broadcasting in our country this original musical comedy from NBC, released last January in the United States with notable success. He introduces us to Zoe (Jane Levy) a computer scientist from San Francisco who discovers that she can read people’s thoughts in the form of songs.

11 | ‘Lovecraft Territory’ (August 17)

The new HBO project has raised great expectations before its release, as behind it are director Jordan Peele and producer JJ Abrams. It is an adaptation of the Matt Ruff novel and addresses racism from the horror genre, a common formula in Peele’s movies. The series takes us back to the 1950s and follows Atticus Black (Jonathan Majors), an African American who travels the United States with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to find his father, whereabouts unknown.
