Chevrolet should take this issue very seriously.
The Chevrolet Corvette C8 is brand new to the automotive landscape. And like any car, it is not immune to problems. Across the Atlantic, owners are complaining about a problem the manufacturer does not yet want to acknowledge.
They are numerous on the specialized forum ‘Corvette Forum‘to point the finger at the front cover of the sports car. While driving and for no reason, the hood of the car would open on its own, preventing the driver from seeing the road. In addition, it would bend the hinges of the hood and misalign it under the effect of the wind.
Visibly, Chevrolet does not want to hear anything, for him, the problem would come from the drivers who would not be attentive enough. When the hood is open, the car beeps and visually beeps, so this should be enough to get drivers’ attention. However, the latter claim that the hood opens without the vehicle emitting any signal …
An owner tested it with his Corvette, and indeed, when the hood is open, the car signals it. But the problem would be more serious, because here we are talking about an unwanted trunk opening and not reported by the car. After all, even if the trunk opened on its own, signaling it any driver would stop to close it.
Complaints have been filed with the NHTSA, the US federal agency responsible for road safety. Investigations are said to be underway to clarify this mystery, and if the problem is proven, the manufacturer may well have to recall some of its Corvettes because not all of them seem to be affected by this manufacturing defect.
In the meantime, aggrieved customers have already found the solution and are exchanging with each other on the specialized forum so that their hood no longer opens unexpectedly. It would be enough to put a carabiner so that the hood of the front trunk remains in place and does not rise any more.
