FRANCE-ASSEMBLEE-BIOETHIQUE: The National Assembly adopts the bioethics bill
PARIS (Reuters) – The deputies adopted on the night of Friday to Saturday the bioethics bill, the flagship measure of which is the opening of medically assisted procreation (PMA) to all women.
The project, examined since Monday, was voted on at second reading with 60 votes for, 37 against, and four abstentions. Only 101 deputies out of 577 took part in the ballot.
“I salute the commitment of parliamentarians, members of the government and the National Consultative Ethics Committee. They allowed the adoption of a balanced text in a peaceful debate”, welcomed the President of the Republic. Emmanuel Macron in a tweet.
The text, which has been the subject of heated debate, must now be considered by the Senate, probably not before the beginning of next year.
