Health workers marched this Sunday morning in Mexico City, Morelos, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Guerrero, Puebla, Jalisco and Tamaulipas to demand the release of the doctor Gerardo Vicente Grajales Yuca, who is under house arrest for being accused of abuse of authority, although he assures that he is not guilty.
He was head of Emergency and Critical Medicine at the Hospital de Especialidades Vida Mejor, of the Social Security Institute for Workers of the State of Chiapas (Isstech).
But a complaint made by the daughter of a patient that he had died of COVID-19 made him a suspect. The plaintiff accused him of asking him to buy medicines and then keep them himself.
In the case of Mexico City, the protest started from the Monument to the Revolution to reach the Zócalo, in front of the National Palace.
“We are fed up with the repression of the medical union, the issue of Dr. Grajales is just one example, to us it does not seem fair that when the union is trying to give everything to help the population, trying to improve the health of the population Well, let’s have this type of repression, ”said Juan Augusto, a doctor assigned to the IMSS Regional Hospital 1, during the protest in Cuernavaca, Morelos, according to Reform.
