The “three-member group of foreign citizens” was verbally attacked by ten to twelve Germans at a known meeting point of the right-wing scene in a prefabricated building area in the southeast of Erfurt and then assaulted. The police spoke of a “xenophobic attack”. Twelve alleged perpetrators were provisionally arrested and detained.

The state of health of the seriously injured was temporarily assessed as critical, it said. He was treated like the other injured in the hospital.

It was not initially known whether weapons or other objects were used in the attack. The attack occurred around 3.05 a.m. The attackers were said to be in front of the right scene. The State Criminal Police Office was involved in the investigation.

The police were urgently looking for witnesses to the fact. They were asked to report by phone. The Erfurt criminal police, the LKA and the Erfurt public prosecutor are investigating the incident.

In Thuringian security circles it is assumed that members or sympathizers of the right-wing extremist micro-party Third Way also regularly stay in the scene before the attack. The police did not comment on this.

Hundreds protested against right-wing extremism and attacks on the right-wing scene in the Thuringian capital on Saturday. The police spoke of about 400 participants. The background to this was an incident on the penultimate weekend in July in a green area in front of the State Chancellery, in which a group of young people was attacked and injured. According to the investigative authorities, some of the attackers have a radical right-wing background. The investigation was still ongoing on Saturday.
