The Tower Bridge, the famous articulated bridge that crosses the Thames in London, was stuck in a high position on Saturday after allowing a boat to pass. “Technical problems” kept the two sides of the bridge from folding down for several hours, which caused huge traffic jams.
The crossing was in fact closed to traffic from 5 p.m. If it reopened an hour later for pedestrians, cars, they still could not use it.
This Sunday morning, the bridge remains closed to car traffic, as indicated by the manager of Tower Bridge on his Twitter account. “Tower Bridge remains open to pedestrians only at this time.”
Built between 1886 and 1894, this huge structure lifts around 800 times a year to allow navigation on the Thames.
