What will we wear in autumn and winter 2020/21, from big fashion houses and emerging labels? Another question: Is that even important? The world and the way we live are radically changing right now. There is a sustainable rethinking, new ideas and good resolutions. That is precisely why we have been asking ourselves over the past few months what we will wear when we take off our silk pajamas and cashmere sweatpants and dress for the real world out there.

Fashion trends: the 5 most important trends in autumn / winter 2020/21

Broad shoulders and large sleeves

Tiffany Hsu speaks of one for the new season „big sleeve energy“. What does that mean? “Unmistakable shoulders and breathtaking sleeves have spread like a balloon on the catwalks,” she explains. These include the sharp-edged, pointed shoulders from Balenciaga, the low-set puff sleeves from Max Mara and the club sleeves from JW Anderson.

New black silhouettes

Demna Gvasalia has also designed a black hybrid of leggings and evening dresses for Balenciaga. At Saint Laurent you saw lace and latex, everything in black. And with Alexander McQueen, black chiffon lies over black leather. “This season, designers have used black to play with cuts and new silhouettes,” says Tiffany Hsu. “This means: All-black-everything, from traditional tailoring to evening wear and outerwear. “

The luxury of loungewear

“It’s very timely that designers have offered more loungewear for the coming season,” said Tiffany Hsu. Gabriela Hearst, Jil Sander and Bottega Veneta, among others, showed high-quality cuddly knits made of cashmere and mohair in natural tones. “But what really stands out is the layering look by Joseph with the matching long scarf.”

The fetish of fashion

If you want to dare something this season, you can choose a skin-tight, for example dress made of red latex by Saint Laurent, a leather coat over a bondage top by Khaite or a leather corset over a petticoat by Junya Watanabe. The buyer’s conclusion: “A large number of brands have ensured that corsets, laced waists and latex with bondage inspiration become one of the strongest Trends for fall / winter 2020/21. “

The new down jackets

“Like our entire purchasing department, the outerwear segment in particular grows every season,” explains Tiffany Hsu. “And the autumn / winter season 2020/21 is of course not complete without the indispensable down jacket.” This was further developed by designers and in some cases reinvented: for example at Prada with a hybrid of down and blazer, at Bottega Veneta with a high collar, that grows up to the crown of the head, or in the case of Jacquemus with a cream-colored tone-on-tone look, where the Down jacket is combined to form a tiny bra top.
