It is arguably the most anticipated book by fans of the British Royal Monarchy. “Finding freedom” is a biography co-written by journalists Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie, staunch supporters of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who have reportedly rubbed shoulders with many close to the couple to offer the Sussexes’ point of view on their unprecedented decision which led them to leave their royal functions. In each chapter written in this biography, the authors detail having at least had recourse to two different sources to crosscheck their information.
One of the passages in the book is dedicated to Meghan Markle’s first husband, married in 2011. And a question is asked: “Why did she divorce her first husband, Trevor Engelson?”
He is a hardworking and ambitious Hollywood film producer like Meghan Markle. But after seven years as an official boyfriend, and then only 23 months as a husband, what could he have done to upset his soul mate who abruptly decided to end their affair.
Since the appearance of the thirty-something on the arm of Prince Harry, the American has never wished to express himself on the reasons which pushed Meghan to ask for a divorce. Trevor and Meghan have each on their own built new lives with new partners and neither wants to unearth the past.
Trevor was jealous of his wife Meghan’s success
But the publication of Finding Freedom, the controversial – and one-sided – new book on Meghan and Prince Harry, risks being a game-changer.
Before marrying him, Meghan often told her relatives that she found that “Trevor didn’t always act like he was supporting her acting career.” Yet that did not prevent her from taking the plunge and marrying him.
For the Hollywood producer, who has done so much to propel Meghan to the actress celebrity she dreamed of, these revelations must be bitter, because until recently, only he really knew what made the young American “vibrate” .
“The story of which he is the subject makes him someone brutal and unsavory”, estimates the Daily Mail. And come back to the end of their romance. After landing her recurring role in the Suits series, Meghan’s financial returns had grown larger than her husband’s, “what he did not like”, reveals a confidante of Meghan Markle.
Apparently, Trevor liked to take on the role of whoever Meghan depended on for introductions and connections in the movie business. “Suddenly, the dynamic changed”, said “friend “, “and he [Engelson] did not like it “.
This jealousy, the book suggests, precipitated the breakdown of their relationship. When Trevor was invited to the 2013 Oscars, he went there alone. According to the book, the man justified this decision because he had only received one ticket, “but Meghan wondered if the real problem was that he didn’t want to share the limelight on the red carpet”. Which echoes how Meghan and Harry also felt treated by “the other members of the royal family who couldn’t stand their megawatt fame and therefore represented an existential threat to the well-being of the monarchy, hence their exclusion and the Megxit “, reports the book.
“An attempt to save his reputation”
Relatives of Trevor, interviewed by the Daily Mail, have a different memory of the events.
Engelson’s uncle Mickey-Miles Felton is in regular contact with his nephew. He is stunned by his statements: “Trevor is too good a person to have these thoughts”, did he declare. “It’s not even close to who he is. The reasons for divorce given in this book are an attempt to clean up the reputation of someone” who has done something wrong and needs to improve his image. “
Like everyone else, his nephew was not without flaws, he says, but adds: “He’s not the kind of person who would be jealous of someone else’s success. He’s been successful and helped a lot of actors break into the business, so that’s totally wrong. “
Tweets and comments posted on social networks in 2010 and 2011, indeed show that the American producer seemed very happy for his fiancée and then wife. He praises all of his wife’s appearances in the series. In January 2013, Trevor even wrote to his subscribers: “Don’t forget to watch the Suits series tonight. I am so proud of my wonderful wife.”
