According to the Confederation’s Central Business Reasons Index, the Swiss subsidiary of the global group specializing in youth travel is currently bankrupt.
Until now STA Travel had five travel agencies in German-speaking Switzerland and two in French-speaking Switzerland. According to the former director of the parent company, Casper Urhammer, 40 employees are affected by the closure. But he has not yet been able to give information on what will happen to these employees and the trips already booked.
1,500 employees worldwide
The responsibility is now in the hands of the liquidator in the Kreis 1 in Zurich, according to information relayed by the information portal “Travelnews”.
STA Travel Holding announced bankruptcy a few weeks ago due to the pandemic crisis and customer uncertainties when booking travel. The situation of the agencies in Switzerland was not clear at the time.
Before the Swiss subsidiary of STA Travel, the German and Austrian subsidiaries had already declared bankruptcy. In the United Kingdom and South Africa, activities have already been halted. Globally, the group employed 1,500 people.
