With a large caravan of cars and a massive casserole, the residents of Oran claimed this Sunday for the critical health situation in that city, the second with the most cases of coronavirus in Salta.
The provincial health system is going through serious complications due to the advance of the pandemic. Carla Vizzotti, Secretary of Access to Health of the Nation, warned last week that health facilities are in “tension” in some areas of Salta. Oran is one of the most urgent faces of that desperate situation.

Neighbors reported that beds and oxygen are lacking, days after Governor Gustavo Sáenz announced the inauguration of a low and medium complexity center to treat coronavirus patients. According to witnesses, the facilities are not working yet.
A first mobilization had already taken place on Saturday. And the second day of protests – called by WhatsApp and social networks – was generalized. Dozens of vehicles drove through the streets of the city, honking and hitting pans as they passed, against Mayor Pablo González and Governor Sáenz.
The demonstrations were replicated in nearby towns, such as Hipólito Yrigoyen, Embarcación and Colonia Santa Rosa.

“Total abandonment in Oran, Salta “and” Hospital de la Muerte Sala Covid-Oran “were the inscriptions of some flags that were displayed in the protest.
The situation is worrying throughout the province, with patients pleading for help through videos posted from their homes to social media. There is an alarm in hospitals in the capital and in Tartagal. And in Oran, the San Vicente de Paul Hospital was overwhelmed by the number of infected.
For this reason, the provincial president announced on Thursday the opening a care center at a school. In addition, he reported the delivery of two ambulances for the local emergency system.
“I toured the facilities of the Osvaldo Pos de Orán School that we adapted as a center of low and medium complexity to care for Covid-19 patients, it also has an oxygen-generating machine. We continue working to take care of the health of all Oranians,” he wrote then the provincial president in his social networks.

But the inhabitants of the city report a desperate situation, with the improvised hospital still closed, under lock, and with the announced “oxygen factory” out of operation.
According to images published in local media, Family members of Covid-19 patients had to carry their own oxygen tubes to assist their loved ones. From the San Vicente de Paul Hospital they denied problems with the generator.
Among the claims is also an apparent lack of testing. It is that since September 1, in localities with community circulation, health authorities do not perform PCR tests on close contacts of positive cases of coronavirus.
After isolation for 14 days, the close contact is immediately discharged, without the performance of any tests. Similarly, if in that period you develop symptoms compatible with the coronavirus, it is automatically recorded as positive.

In a note released in the first minutes of Monday, the Salta health authorities indicated that the laboratory tests are “one more tool.” And they added: “It is not necessary to do them, since with the evidence of the clinical and epidemiological data a case can be confirmed as positive “.
Last week, Carla Vizzotti warned that the health system is in tension” in some areas of Salta. Medical personnel were sent from the Nation to reinforce him, at the request of the local authorities.
Oran – which receives patients from nearby towns – suffers one of the most critical situations due to coronavirus in the province. Only the capital exceeds it in number of infected.
This Sunday, the Salta Ministry of Health registered 145 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the number of infections to 4,414 since the start of the pandemic. The city of Salta accumulates 1,767 infections (84 in the last 24 hours), while Oran reaches 775 (20 in Sunday’s report).
There are 59 people killed by Covid-19 in the province.
