The New York Times has managed to get hold of some of the most sought after – and most stubbornly hidden – documents of recent years: the tax returns of the President of the United States, Donald Trump. The details, published in the first of a series of episodes announced by the newspaper, are very significant: because they contrast with the successful image that the president has always wanted to give of himself and his business, because Trump is the only president in history contemporary not to declare the amount paid to the coffers of the state that leads, and because they will become central in the next, decisive weeks of the election campaign: starting from first debate against the challenger, the democrat Joe Biden. According to what the New York Times, therefore, Donald Trump paid $ 750 in federal taxes in the year he became president, 2016; $ 750 the following year, the first spent in the White House; is zero in 10 of the 15 years prior to his election. The Times notes how – for a man, and a businessman, who likes to present himself as a successful billionaire – the level of taxation is enormously low. According to the newspaper, Trump would have adopted particularly aggressive fiscal practices, denouncing losses that have allowed him to very often reach zero the total due to the federal government. The cards would also show how Trump got it debts for hundreds of millions, with several problems related to the properties of the Trump Organization. One of Trump’s attorneys, Alan’s garden, he told al New York Times that “most, if not all, what is reported seems inaccurate.” Garten claims that the president has paid “tens of millions of dollars in taxes to the federal government, even since he announced his candidacy,” which is 2015.
