Italian authorities have reported this Sunday of 1,766 new infections and 17 deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours recorded, bringing a total of 35,835 deaths and 309,870 confirmed positives.

The number of infections is one less than on Saturday, although with about 16,000 fewer tests (87,714 compared to 104,387 reported on Saturday).

In addition, the bulletin includes 2,846 hospitalized patients -100 more than on Saturday- and 254 of them are in intensive care -7 more than the previous day-.

Active cases are 49,618 after adding 1,025 in the last 24 hours. By region, Campania ranks as the most affected with 245 new cases, followed by Lombardy (216), Lazio (181) and Sardinia (139).

Meanwhile, the Minister of Regional Affairs, Francesco Boccia, has stated that the extension of the state of emergency is “inevitable”. “There should be no debate. We will have to take it to Parliament, but the extension seems inevitable to me ”, he stated in an interview with ‘La Stampa’.

The state of emergency was declared at the end of January and in July it was renewed until October 15. This figure is widely used in Italy in the event of catastrophes such as earthquakes and allows the authorities to act more quickly without going through Parliament. Thus the Government of Giuseppe Conte imposed the confinement without having to debate it in Parliament.
