He started off great (second in FP1), he finished in trouble (18th in FP2, 15th in the combined times): Andrea Dovizioso explains this change.
“It was not a normal day: in the afternoon, many went fast, but to do it you had to take many risks, because the wind was very strong and gusty. I think it didn’t make much sense to push too much, also because the forecasts say that the wind will be much less intense in the coming days. Coincidentally, Bagnaia and I did the same strategy (in FP2 they used the soft at the rear and then mounted the medium in the final, NDA), opposite to that of the other pilots.
You managed to figure out something about the set-up ‘
“Today was not a day for making decisions. On our bike, the average struggles to work: maybe with little wind you can push harder. Today’s data are not very significant, but in the last outing of FP1, with the soft tire, I saw some interesting things ”.
Do you think Michelin brought the right tires?
“Everyone has problems getting the front up to temperature: these rubbers are for higher temperatures. Nobody will use the hard front, with the rear medium we are at the limit, while others manage to use it. You have to push hard right out of the pits, otherwise you can’t get it to work ”.
What do you say about Zarco’s time?
“1’39” 7 in these conditions is a great time. I hope that tomorrow does not go down too much with the times, in FP3 we will have to try to be fast right away”.
