The one-year-old child who was injured by Baden-Württemberg’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) in connection with a traffic accident in the vehicle column has died. The child died of his serious injuries on Sunday, as the Heilbronn police headquarters announced. Kretschmann expressed himself deeply concerned: “I am full of sadness, as are my employees, who had to witness the terrible accident that occurred shortly after ours”.
“We saw the little child, gave first aid, worried about it and hoped,” added Kretschmann. “We knew about the critical situation the little girl found herself in. With every day she was alive, our hope grew a little that she would make it. Now she is dead.”
His thoughts and those of his co-workers are “with the parents who have now experienced the worst that can happen to a mother and a father”.
Kretschmann’s limousine, the first vehicle in a column, had probably come off the lane last Monday evening due to aquaplaning on Autobahn 81. According to the police, the vehicle first hit a guardrail and then came to a halt in the hard shoulder. An escort vehicle and a police car then stopped behind Kretschmann.
Another vehicle then skid a little later due to aquaplaning and crashed into the accompanying vehicle. The one-year-old was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle. The 33-year-old driver of this car was also seriously injured. The 29-year-old passenger was slightly injured.
