Tour operator TUI has clearly cut its winter schedule due to new travel warnings and the great uncertainty caused by the coronavirus. The German company, the world’s leading tourism group and present in particular in Belgium, is thus canceling about a fifth of its offer for the coming season, she announced on Tuesday.
In the coming months, holidaymakers will still be able to enjoy around 40% of the initial capacity offered by TUI. So far, 30% of the limited offer has been booked, according to the tour operator.
The coronavirus pandemic has turned into an existential crisis for the travel industry. After a shutdown of about three months, TUI has gradually resumed operations since mid-June. “Since this takeover (and until the end of August), 1.4 million customers have gone on vacation with us”, explains Fritz Joussen, boss of the company.
The tour operator is more confident for the 2021 summer season.
