Your throat hurts. Can you go to school? You have snot Do you stay home? To answer these and more questions, the Civil Protection Plan of Catalonia (Procicat) updated this Wednesday the health measures in the educational field for the new school year, which begins on Monday, September 14 in times of coronavirus.

The plan determines a list of symptoms which may be manifestations of a Covid infection. Among these, the nasal cold (with or without mucus) and sore throat are excluded if it is not accompanied by fever.

Instead, a upper temperature at 37.5ºC, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, stomach pain, with vomiting or diarrhea, and loss of smell or taste (in older children or adolescents) may be indications of Covid-19 disease .

Given these symptoms, it is recommended to follow the advice of health services before taking children to school. The most common symptoms of Covid-19 are fever (60% of cases), fatigue (40%), and respiratory distress (31%).

Procicat believes that since sore throats and nasal colds are “very common” in children, they should only be considered potential symptoms of Covid-19 when accompanied by fever or other manifestations from the listing.

Chinstraps

As an additional sanitary measure age is lowered mandatory use of a mask for 12 to 6 years for at least the first two weeks of the course. The statement justifies the measure because “the students still do not come from a stable group.”

After 14 days, the obligation will be reviewed from 6 years and up to 12 years, and will be determined based on the territory and the state of the pandemic.

Every Wednesday each school will be informed if the following Monday continues the obligation to wear a mask or not. The criteria to be followed to determine the status of the epidemic are not specified.

PCR in schools

In the review of the Covid-19 case management protocol, published on August 13, Procicat also adds the performance of tests PCR to partners of a positive in the same school (in a ventilated place), “whenever possible”, to facilitate collection and avoid travel to primary care centers.

This procedure will be followed even if the positive is known on a Friday. In this case, the children will return to school on Monday and will be made there the proof. “Contacts will continue to attend classes until quarantine is indicated,” the document added.

From the beginning of the school year, they will be incorporated New measures, according to the general director of Public Centers, Josep Gonzàlez-Cambrany, who reported that the centers They are also obliged to control the temperature of the students.

Parents (and other) meetings prohibited

This measure will force the centers to be re-equipped with thermometers, since each school and institute, regardless of their size, has received a device, which makes time unfeasible to review all students.

Procicat also agreed to prohibit meetings in schools, be they center staff or meetings with families. They will only be face-to-face “exceptionally” in groups iless than 10 persons.

The approved document also specifies that the use of the mask is mandatory for adults, with the exception of early childhood education teachers (from 0 to 6 years old), when its use “seriously” interferes with the pedagogical objective.
