Faced with the sharp increase in the pandemic in Switzerland, the Minister of Health is launching an urgent appeal to the population to respect health rules and precautionary measures.
As in spring already, at the start of the pandemic, the Minister of Health Alain Berset called on Sunday for the responsibility of the population. The current situation “is a test for all of society”. We must act quickly to avoid a second “lockdown”.
“Apply the measures learned in the spring”
The epidemiological situation is changing rapidly, for ten days we have seen an exponential growth in cases of infections. “If we do nothing, the numbers will double every week,” warned the Federal Councilor.
Hospitals are certainly not yet experiencing any problems. But the consequences of the high number of cases will be felt in two to four weeks. That is why we must act now.
“The evolution is worrying but we should not be afraid,” added Alain Berset. Everyone knows how to react: “We must all apply the measures learned in the spring: keep the distance, wash your hands, wear a mask”.
Alain Berset has launched an urgent appeal to postpone family celebrations “to better times”. The Federal Council does not intend to prevent economic and social life, but to issue a warning. The big difference compared to the spring and that, currently, no company has to close its doors.
“We all have the same goal”
The President of the Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga underlined that all the measures announced were taken in agreement with the cantons: “the Confederation and the cantons must work together to put an end to the bickering over who does what”.
Most cantons have already taken more stringent measures. Since the whole of Switzerland is concerned, rules are needed at the national level. “We all have the same goal,” she added.
