The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, warned that “Argentina faces dramatic challenges”, Acknowledged that the exchange rate gap is expanding and that implementing a comprehensive and credible economic agenda is a top priority.

This is what he said this Wednesday, at the press conference he gave from Washington in the framework of the IMF Annual Assembly that takes place virtually.

“Argentina faces very dramatic challenges. The country is in a deep recession, social conditions are getting worse, economic imbalances are increasing, the difference between the official exchange rate and the parallel exchange rate (the blue) is expanding ”, he began in response to questions from Argentine journalists.

That is why he mentioned that “the country is at a point where, as the mission has concluded, the highest priority must be to implement a comprehensive and credible economic agenda that balances supporting the economy and people at this difficult time with making sure we also have macroeconomic stability. ”

In that sense, he went on to point out that “the most important task for the country is, in fact, to provide that roadmap on what direction to follow and how we know that we are reaching our destination.”

“We are there for Argentina, the mission will return in November. We want to be partners in Argentina. We have a political determination to lift the country out of what have historically been cycles of boom and bust.“, He said.
