As promised in advance, Fernando Alonso returned behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car this Tuesday, completing a Filming Day with Renault.
The Spaniard totaled 21 laps at the Montmeló circuit with the model R.S20 of the French house, complying with the maximum of 100 kilometers that the FIA regulations allow with current cars, as he gets ready to return to the category next year.
It was his first test in an F1 car since Bahrain, in April last year.
“It was amazing to be able to drive these cars after two years and feel the speed again, how everything comes so fast, corner after corner, the braking performance and all the things that a Formula 1 car has to offer. Feeling it once again felt good, “he described.
“Most of the day was a little bit of filming with some drones on the runway and some action behind the camera. At the same time, it was tried to work with the team to do a couple of laps and find comfort in the seat, the steering wheel and the pedals.
“These are things for next year that, during the winter, could be very tight. They are our first steps ».

Alonso called the performance of the RS20 “surprising”, feeling a significant progress of the engine, compared to the one used in its second stage in McLaren, although he also recognized that he could not maximize benefits because he was out of rhythm.
However, Daniel Ricciardo’s podium at the Nürburgring and the chemistry and forms of communication that he is building with his work group have motivated him for the future.
“I think the car has potential, as we see every weekend. But there is still room for improvement, as we know, and we will try to do so in the short term, “he said.
“We all have high hopes within the team, looking at the team’s progress in the championship and the standings on the weekends. At the same time, we also have to keep our feet on the ground, knowing that the regulations will be more or less the same until 2022.
«I know what the team is capable of and I know that the prospects for the future are good. The podium is something that had to happen. The most important thing is to follow the trend that we see now, to keep the momentum until next year, especially to 2022, and I think we know how to do it.
