(ANSA) – VENICE, OCTOBER 16 – It is the ‘under control’ numbers of hospitals and resuscitations that curb fear in Veneto, but the second wave of Covid seems to be a re-edition of the first: +704 infections and 7 victims in a single day, higher data (in positives) from March-April. The health system holds up, and this is the mantra of Governor Luca Zaia. Of the total number of infected people, 97% have no symptoms, and this makes the difference between the current phase of the epidemic and the previous one when half of the infected ended up in hospital. However, the pressure is felt. With Thursday’s 600 cases and today’s 704 cases, the tally has grown by over 1,300 positives in 48 hours. The casuistry of the dead also rises, 2,244. The new outbreak of the virus reverberates just as soon as hospital bulletins: in non-critical wards there are 396 patients (+21), in resuscitation 47 (+2). This last figure impacts for 10% on the basic equipment, 464 places, of intensive care in the Veneto region.
> ANSA-IL-PUNTO / COVID: Veneto, + 704 cases, cluster in marriage
Meanwhile, new mini-outbreaks break out. A cluster with 22 positive people at Covid-19 is the result of a wedding party in the Treviso area, while 10% of a group of 500 workers in a company tested the virus.
On the central theme of the debate – whether or not to close the country a second time – Luca Zaia is with those who believe a new lockdown is not needed. “I don’t bring forward lockdown ideas because it would be a defeat – he says – It would mean having collapsed hospitals, many victims, it would be admitting that something went wrong in the prevention plan”. However, it does not exclude the validity of ‘surgical’ lockdowns, as was the case in Veneto in some municipalities of Comelico. Finally, the Venetian president tries to clarify the school theme: “I cheer for the school to remain open and not for it to close – he explains – I was criticized because I raised a question. Time will be a gentleman and you will see how it will end. We will go there. : with distance learning, teaching on sight, with shifts, obviously for students who can self-manage a part of the day without their parents “. (HANDLE).
