AGI – It is ‘yellow’ alert in 12 Italian regions for bad weather. A large depression area, with action center on the North Sea, is conveying cold and unstable air masses causing a progressive worsening of the weather which is already affecting the northern regions and which is gradually extending over the center and part of the south. . Strong winds are expected to reinforce and a sharp drop in temperatures.

Precipitation from scattered to diffuse, also of a reverse or temporal character, will affect Tuscany, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Marche and Campania. The phenomena will be accompanied by showers of strong intensity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind. Strong to stormy winds are also expected, with strong storm gusts from the western quadrants on Sardinia and from the northern quadrants on Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, with possible storm surges along the exposed coasts. Hence the yellow alert on part of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria and Tuscany, on the entire territory of Umbria, Marche, Lazio, Molise and Campania, on part of Abruzzo and Sicily.

Purely winter awakening in the valleys of South Tyrol. The snow in some mountain resorts has even reached 30 centimeters, in particular in the area of ​​Lake Braies and in the Dolomites. Heavy rain from last night in the valley and a sharp drop in temperatures even up to 10 degrees both in the city and in the mountains. Always due to bad weather the ‘Barcolana’, the traditional regatta held in the Gulf of Trieste, has been canceled, lashed by strong bora. Forecasts show the situation to worsen. This was announced by the organizers of the event, after indications from the Port Authority. “Faced with marine weather conditions such as today – commented the president of Svbg, Mitja Gialuz – seafarers recognize the need to keep the crews on the ground and the boats safe. There is something liberating in the fact that the wind beats Covid: we have overcome the difficulties associated with organizing Barcolana in this context, and only our natural element, the wind, stopped us in this edition ”.

The organizers monitored the evolution of conditions throughout the night, worked to reinforce the moorings, sent the tugboat to sea at 4 in the morning and positioned the starting buoys at 4.30 this morning: at 5.30 the tug was placed at the height of Boa 1 with the aim of measuring the wind in that strategic area of ​​the Gulf for the regatta and from there to provide the information necessary for subsequent assessments on sea and wind conditions. At 7, during the briefing at the Port Authority, the decision was made to cancel the regatta.
