WASHINGTON (AP) – US President Donald Trump’s son Barron had tested positive for the new coronavirus, but now his results are negative, first lady Melania Trump said Wednesday.
The White House had originally said that Barron Trump, 14, had tested negative for COVID-19, after both his parents tested positive a few weeks ago.
The first lady said a subsequent test showed Barron Trump had also contracted the virus. But now it’s negative, Melania Trump noted, as did she and President Trump.
After the first lady and the president received their positive results on October 1, Mrs. Trump wrote that “naturally, the first thing that crossed my mind was my son.”
It tested negative, and Melania Trump said she was relieved but kept thinking about what would happen the next day and after that.
“My fear came true when he was tested again and it came back positive,” he said in a long note posted on social media.
He noted that Barron is a “strong teenager” who did not develop symptoms. Sounding a bit like the president, she said she was “glad that the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of each other and spend time together.”
The first lady has protected her son’s privacy. He did not explain why his diagnosis was not released earlier.
