Front of 10 percent biodiesel price update published today by the Ministry of Energy of the Nation in the Official Gazette after 9 months without changes, the companies grouped in the Chamber of Regional SMEs that produce Biofuels (CEPREB) warned through a statement that this resolution is not enough to cover the costs of raw materials. “If there is no immediate rectification,” they warned, “companies will go from being paralyzed to going through a process of restructuring and closure, with suspensions and layoffs what that entails ”.

According to the camera there are more than 30 companies in a terminal situation, “about to close”, that generate 10,000 jobs, mostly located in the interior of the country, in the provinces of La Pampa, Santa Fe, San Luis, Entre Ríos, Santiago del Estero and Buenos Aires.

“Taking into account that more than 80 percent of the cost of biodiesel production comes from soybean oil, and that from last December to today it registered an increase of 30 percent in dollars, and also the dollar had an increase of 30 percent hundred in the same period, the rectification of only 10 percent of the price of biodiesel does not allow to cover production costs nor keep operating plants on their feet ”, they remarked in the statement.

The companies that are part of CEPREB request the National Government “the urgent review so that the recomposition of the price of biodiesel is in the order of 40 percent, that is, that it is enough to keep the industry alive and thus avoid a wave of layoffs due to the imminent closure of a large part of its plants “.
