TOKYO, Oct 1 (Reuters) – Japanese manufacturers were less pessimistic in the July-September quarter than in the previous period, when the coronavirus pandemic pushed business confidence to an 11-year low, the “tankan” survey showed on Thursday. of the central bank.

The general index for the confidence of the large manufacturers improved to -27 in September from -34 in June, the lowest level since the same month of 2009.

The result compares with economists’ median estimate of -23 in a Reuters poll and marked the first improvement in seven quarters.
