Monday morning (12), with party, ringing of bells and rocket, to honor the patron saint of Brazil. Hundreds of trucks, cars and motorcycles took part in this holiday procession motorized in honor of Our Lady of Aparecida. On the andor decorated with white and yellow flowers, with the national flag on the hood of a truck, the image followed the streets and avenues of Santa Luzia, in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte.

While the drivers honked their horns, passengers raised blue and white balloons, banners and small images of the saint in her blue cloak. And the people prayed and applauded, noting that, behind the image, was the banner the phrase Practice forgiveness.

The motorcade was promoted by the parish of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Bairro Kennedy, and the partygoers chose the theme Be light, in the face of the pandemic of the new coronavirus that plunges the world population into a darkness of uncertainty.

“The 12th of October is a very important date for all of us Brazilians. We have to celebrate and thank them. It is the day of our Mother Aparecida,” said Henrique Barbosa, 19, a gastronomy student, alongside his parents Ramón Barbosa and Vanessa Regina, residents of the São Geraldo neighborhood, in Santa Luzia.

At 12 noon on Monday (12), the traditional mass commemorating Our Lady of Aparecida will begin at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, in Contagem, in the Metropolitan Region of BH.

This is the first time, in 36 years, that the mass will not be celebrated in Praça da Cemig.

In the pre-pandemic times of the new coronavirus, the mass gathered around 5,000 faithful. This time, due to social isolation, there will only be 100 people, who previously registered to participate.

Everyone should wear masks, with alcohol gel available for hand hygiene. The celebration will be chaired by the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, Dom Vicente Ferreira, who is a reference for the Episcopal Region Nossa Senhora Aparecida (Rensa).

“With Mary, as a family, putting on the Word” is the theme of the Mass this year.
