The Catalan Minister of the Interior, Miquel Sàmper, has recognized that it is “impossible” for Mossos d’Esquadra and the local police officers control compliance with the restrictions in “each house” to avoid the contagion of the coronavirus, before which it has encouraged citizens to denounce those who skip the measures.
At a press conference, Sàmper announced that the Mossos and the local police will expand their coordination to carry out a control “more exhaustive” of the non-compliance with the restrictions of the one that occurred in the first phase of the pandemic,60,000 complaints have already been processed, of which more than 3,000 have already been paid.
The counselor has appealed to the “co-responsibility” of citizens when limiting their contacts within the scope of their “bubble” of coexistence and also, in the case of people who comply with the restrictions, to alert the police if they detect that more people gather in a neighboring house than is allowed.
“Important improvement” in the coordination between Mossos and local police
“The police officers have to know the sources” where the restrictions are breached, stressed Sàmper, who acknowledged that it was wrong for him to ask people to report their neighbors if they fail to comply with prevention measures, but that I had to do it because “it is reality.”
The minister has also announced that they have agreed on a “major improvement” in the coordination between the Mossos and the local police, which from now on they will have to report a daily report on the troops affected by coronavirus and the complaints that have been filed with individuals and locals for bypassing the restrictions of the administrations to combat the coronavirus.
“With the same numbers, we will be more effective”, Sàmper has guaranteed, which nevertheless has insisted that neither the Mossos nor the local police can reach everywhere, so it has asked for citizen collaboration to denounce those who violate the restrictions, since “they can harm those who They do it right”.
And this is not for the purpose of collecting funds, the minister has pointed out, but to discourage attitudes that can put public health at risk, which in case of recidivism it can carry penalties of up to 6,000 euros.
Sàmper has detailed that so far already 60,000 complaints have been processed by the security forces in Catalonia during the first phase of the pandemic, of which more than 3,000 have already been collected, mostly for the minimum amount of 300 euros, which is also reduced by 40% if paid instantly.
