The drop in attendance was confirmed last month at Brussels South Charleroi Airport. According to figures released on Wednesday, the airport operated at 26% of its capacity during the month of September, compared to the same period in 2019. It handled 189,377 passengers, against 737,428 last year.
The fall in passenger traffic therefore continued because of the coronavirus crisis, with attendance down 74% last month. In detail, 85,511 travelers (45%) were recorded in the direction of departures and 103,866 (55%) at the return level.
Among the available destinations, southern Europe attracted nearly 65% of travelers from Brussels South Charleroi Airport in September. Italy remained in first place in the ranking of destinations, followed by France, Spain, Portugal and Greece.
The number of trade movements also fell by 54%. A total of 2,025 thefts were recorded in September, against 4,396 in 2019.
