The group that would organize the 2nd debate between candidates for the presidency of the United States decided to cancel the meeting between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden. The confrontation between the 2 was scheduled for October 15 and would be broadcast on the TV network Fox News. The cancellation was announced on Friday (9.out.2020).
The decision was made because of Trump’s refusal to hold the meeting via videoconference. The Republican is still undergoing treatment against the covid-19. The positive diagnosis was confirmed 1 week ago.
Although experts argue that the period of transmission of the disease lasts, on average, 15 days, Trump wants to resume the agenda of public events starting on Saturday (10.out.2020). He even claims that he is released by doctors to travel. Critics of the president accuse him of putting people’s health at risk.
Due to this insistence by Trump, the organizers decided to cancel the debate, as Biden refused to meet the president, who is trying to re-elect himself. Despite the refusal, the democrat leads the way in election polls, who put him as a favorite to take over the White House in 2021.
White House Event
The TV network ABC News received an invitation to 1 event at the White House this Saturday, with the participation of Donald Trump. According to the broadcaster, hundreds of people are expected in the south garden of the US government headquarters. The president is expected to deliver a speech to supporters, while staying away from the public.
In addition to Trump, U.S. media says at least 34 senior government officials have been infected with covid-19 since the president’s diagnosis. Until now, no test results have been publicly released that could point out that the Republican has cured the coronavirus.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Trump has minimized the disease, which has killed more than 200,000 people in the United States and more than 1 million worldwide. Among the unproven prescriptions, he suggested people to inject disinfectant and to seek treatment with hydroxychloroquine, to prevent covid-19. According to the World Health Organization, none of the treatments has any proven effectiveness.
