The contagions of COVID-19 detected in Galicia have soared above 400 in the last 24 hours, 437 according to the latest data provided by the Xunta, which is the second highest peak of the second wave of the pandemic. With these figures, the evolution of the pandemic in Galicia already moves at similar values at the end of March.
According to the latest update of the website of the Department of Health in the morning of this Sunday, with data up to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, the positive PCRs have risen in all areas, except in Ourense, and they have done so in a prominent way in that of Vigo, which is placed as a new focus by adding 101 infections in one day.
The new cases of coronavirus detected in the health area of Santiago and Barbanza have also risen, to 77 (+15); in A Coruña, 66 (+9); in Pontevedra and O Salnés, at 54 (+15); in Lugo, where they almost doubled, to 41 new positives (+19); and in Ferrol, with 20 (+1).
The only exception is the area of Ourense, Verín and O Barco, which until now was the main focus of the pandemic in Galicia with five isolated municipalities – in addition to the provincial capital, Barbadás, Boborás, O Irixo and O Carballiño. In the data for this Sunday, the Ourense area has a total of 78 positives in 24 hours, almost twenty less than a day ago.
Regarding discharges, in the last day, 248 COVID-19 patients have been cured throughout the Community, which places the total since the beginning of the pandemic at 23,326. Likewise, 818 people diagnosed with coronavirus have died so far, after the three new victims notified on Saturday afternoon.
Thus, active cases – people who still suffer from the disease – have rebounded in 187, reaching 4,932 this Sunday, due to having registered more infections than discharges. In fact, they have risen in all areas except Ourense, which has fallen by 33, to 1,577 patients.
For its part, A Coruña y Cee ranks as the second area with the most active cases, with 839, after a rise of 32 in one day. This is followed by Santiago and Barbanza, with 719 patients (+33); Vigo, with 708 (+76); Pontevedra-O Salnés, with 457 (+41); Lugo, with 450 active cases (+25); and Ferrol, 182 infected with COVID (+13).
Likewise, the Sanidade website shows that 586,482 tests have been carried out to date, which means that 6,654 PCRs have been carried out in the last 24 hours, half a thousand less than a day before. Thus, the percentage of positives in the Galician Community has risen this Sunday to 7.3%, above 5.6% on Saturday.
The health area with the highest PCR positivity is Pontevedra-O Salnés, where it has almost doubled, to 12.7%. The rest, except for A Coruña and Cee (4.8%), also exceed the 5% threshold set by the World Health Organization: Lugo (8.5%), Santiago (7.9%), Ourense (7.7%), Ferrol (7.3%) and Vigo (6.5%).
