AGI – Johnson & Johnson stopped testing the Covid-19 vaccine after a volunteer participating in the study unexpectedly fell ill. The news, relaunched by some American media was then confirmed by the pharmaceutical giant.
“Following our guidelines, the participant’s illness is assessed by the Data Safety Monitoring Board (which is an independent entity) on the Ensable (which is the name of the study) as well as by internal doctors and safety experts”, specifies the US multinational in a note. “Adverse events, such as illness or accidents, even serious ones – underlines the company – are part of every clinical study, especially if large-scale”.
The stop was communicated to all researchers who deal with the approx 60,000 patients undergoing the trial.
