On Thursday, Israel became the twenty-fourth (24th) country in the world with more than 300,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Within this group of affected states, Israel is the only one with less than 10 million inhabitants.

Given the good results of the general closure, the cabinet in charge of handling the pandemic in Israel authorized some reopening. Starting Sunday, they will be allowed to open to small businesses that do not involve interaction with the public, kindergartens, take-out services and the beaches.

Additionally, weddings with up to 10 people will be allowed indoors and if held in an open area, up to 20 guests can attend. Also, the prohibition to move away from the home beyond one kilometer was lifted. Cities and communities classified as “red”, which indicate a high infection rate, will remain blocked.

Despite the fact that religious institutions have become a major point of contagion, the authorities and ultra-Orthodox leaders reached an agreement to open it. According to the proposed scheme, each study session will be divided into several groups of students and the students will remain in separate sterile capsules.
