The doctors from all over Spain are this Tuesday summoned to the strike, the first in 25 years, to protest the “abuse” to which they are subjected due to their working conditions and the deterioration of Public Health, which will be “even greater” by the decree that allows hiring professionals without specialty. They have been summoned by the State Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM), which has done so that interfere “as little as possible” in the health care of citizens, but with no other remedy than a strike, which is the last resort they have left.

The member of the permanent CESM María José Campillo has assured Efe, who has explained that the minimum services that have been imposed on them are “abusive”: in many cases one hundred percent and in others at least 80% of the staff, that is, there will be more staff working than “there is on a public holiday.”

Campillo has argued before the call for the strike that the Spanish public health “is weighed down” for decades due to the lack of investment and the “continuous mistreatment” of professionals, whom they have been kept “precarious”, something that “patients have also suffered”, as doctors have little time to attend to them.

The pandemic “has exposed all the deficiencies of a system, which was being maintained with the effort of professionals but the effort is no longer enough, no matter how much we want to multiply,” said the member of the CESM.

He has asked for solutions that cannot happen, he has insisted, for “further deteriorating sanitation” As, in his opinion, the Royal Decree of the Government 29/2020 is being carried out, which allows, among other things, to exceptionally hire non-EU health personnel or who have not obtained a place in the last MIR call.

The CESM maintains that the royal decree has used the excuse” from a pandemic to “dismantle” the health system.
