Lionel Messi would not intend to be engaged in the presidential election of FC Barcelona.
The election dates for the presidency of FC Barcelona have been set for March 20 and 21, 2021.
José Maria Bartomeu cannot run for re-election after serving two consecutive terms, but he likely would have had little chance, amid the current tensions at Camp Nou. Presidential candidate and frontrunner Víctor Font was quick to make it known that he wanted to see Xavi as successor to Dutchman Koeman, whom the club appointed as new manager this summer.
By putting forward the name of Messi’s former teammate, the candidate hoped to put himself number 10 on his side for the upcoming presidential campaign. But according to Don Balón, Messi would have indicated that he did not want to be involved in the campaign, and that he would simply wait for the result like everyone else.
The Argentinian believes that this should not be played at the level of the coaches to be posted, but that each candidate should above all present a good project and defend his arguments.
As a reminder, the Catalan future of Leo Messi is dotted as the 33-year-old is coming to the end of his contract.
